This blog is an extension of my school blog, but with a professional focus.
My name is Tracy Gidinski, and I teach grades 6 and 7 at Kitchener Elementary School in Burnaby, British Columbia. I have been teaching for 15 years, always focusing on grades 5 to 7 (and, for a four-year time, teaching a multiage 5/6/7 class). My preferred grade is combined 6/7.
Although Kitchener is not an inner city school, I have spent most of my teaching time at inner city schools in my district. I am currently one of the technology contacts at my school, focusing on the application of technology in the school. I am in charge of our school’s website as well as my own class blog/website (currently undergoing an overhaul for the new school year), and have encouraged other colleagues to start their own blogs or websites as well.
In the summer time, I teach English 11 in Burnaby, which I have also taught for 15 years. I love the opportunity to teach both elementary and secondary courses. My prior post-secondary education has all been at UBC, including a BA in Geography, a BEd in Elementary Education, and a post-graduate diploma in Special Education, focusing on Behaviour. Before that, I did all my elementary and secondary education in Burnaby.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy photography, being involved with my church, traveling, reading, doing pencil puzzles, playing Scrabble, being amused by my love bird’s crazy actions, and using the computer both for research purposes (my delicious account is here) and in artistic ways.
